What to Expect During a Roadworthiness Inspection
A roadworthiness inspection confirms a vehicle meets safety and performance standards. Knowing the process helps you prepare.
Document check
Bring the registration, import or export certificates, and service records. Inspectors confirm details before starting.
Exterior and structural check
The frame, panels, and underbody are inspected for damage, corrosion, or unsafe repairs.
Tyre and brake testing
A brake tester measures braking force for front, rear, and parking brakes. Tyres are checked for tread depth, wear, and age.
Emission and engine diagnostics
Petrol vehicles are tested for CO and hydrocarbon levels. Diesel vehicles are tested for smoke opacity. OBDII scanners read error codes from the engine control unit.
Lighting and visibility
Headlights, brake lights, indicators, and hazard lights are checked for brightness and alignment. Mirrors and glass are inspected for cracks or damage.
Suspension and steering
Shock absorbers, springs, and steering linkages are tested to confirm they work properly.
Final report
The inspector issues a printed report. If the vehicle passes, it receives an “Inspected & Passed” sticker recognized by the Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency.
AAA’s inspection process is accredited and consistent. Most visits take 10 to 20 minutes. The goal is to ensure the vehicle is safe, compliant, and ready for use.
